October 2007. American Grindhouse Production in Full Swing!
Having finally secured financing for the feature-length documentary American Grindhouse, Elijah Drenner and Dan Greene have stepped-up production from a slow, steady trickle to a veritable broken water main of traveling, fast-food consumption, and somewhere in between all of that, actually filming interviews with some of the most notable and colorful personalities to come out of the American exploitation film boom of the 1960s and '70s. According to Dan, "We are aiming for a 2008 release, so wish us luck!"

Visit the American Grindhouse website for information and updates.

October 2006. Spider Baby Special Features Completed.
Dan Greene and friend/collaborator Elijah Drenner finished post-production on three special features for the upcoming DVD re-release of Spider Baby, the 1964 horror-comedy directed by exploitation auteur Jack Hill (Switchblade Sisters, Coffy). Look for the DVD to be released in Fall of 2007 from Dark Sky Films.

Special features include a making-of featurette, The Hatching of Spider Baby; a short featurette on the film's under-appreciated composer, entitled Spider Stravinsky: The Cinema Sounds of Ronald Stein; and The Merrye House Revisited, a tour of the original filming location with Jack Hill and Elijah Drenner.

Produced & directed by Elijah Drenner, filmed by Dan Greene, edited by Elijah Drenner and Dan Greene, the Spider Baby special features wouldn't exist without the gracious cooperation of our on-camera participants, including actors Sid Haig, Beverly Washburn, Mary Mitchel, Karl Schanzer and Quinn Redeker; filmmaker/fan Joe Dante; cinematographer Alfred Taylor, ASC; film historian/flesh-eater Chris D.; musician/filmmaker Harlene Stein; and of course, the man himself, Jack Hill.

Special thanks to Elke Hill for the chocolate bars and lemonade. What a sweetheart.
